So first of all, we always wanna thank ccu. They have been awesome in providing education, not only malpractice insurance or risk management for all of us, but education on all the different topics that are so important and the people who speak for them are really helpful. I have used them through the years.

Because let's face it, nobody wants to be that. So you probably, you're like, what the heck, Julie? What? What are you doing? You're talking about hipaa. You know that I've spoke for several years for cardio secure, for empowering women in healthcare and you've seen me, talk about chiropractic and functional medicine and I practiced chiropractic for 37 years.

I hate to admit it 'cause that means I must be really old. Just. All the numbers not at heart, right? But I'm like you. I love helping heal patients. Put my hands on them. But I have to tell you, I started to see something that actually scared me more than back pain and neck pain and high cholesterol, and high blood sugar, and it was my friends, brilliant providers.

Losing everything, going through horrible audits. Not because they were bad, not because they were did something wrong or they hurt somebody or anything like that, but it was because of compliance gaps and they didn't even know they existed. They didn't even know, some of 'em didn't even know that they had to comply with hipaa.

It was horrible and it killed me and it really fired me up. So because of that, I teamed up with my awesome partner, Dr. Perry Barnhill, and he is a HIPAA ninja. I have to tell you. He knows everything about hipaa and I been doing some of the tech stuff for him for actually quite a while. And so I decided, you know what?

Our friends need our help, and that's why I'm here today talking about something totally different than I normally do. So we all went to school to help people, but when you open your practice, you also go from CEO to IT, director to privacy officer, the cybersecurity manager. In addition to doing adjustments as a chiropractor you are doing everything, training your front desk, and somehow at the same time, you're still being a human being and living your life.

So we wanna look at, make sure you don't go from doing adjustments to audits, right? Nobody has time for that. Nobody has time to be doing audits. We'd rather be doing adjustments and taking care of our patients. That's what we went to school for. That's what we love. But I realize that providers need support, not fear.

You don't need to be afraid of this because when compliance fails, patients suffer and providers pay for it. Let's be honest, right? We're the ones that are gonna pay for it. So if you're not doing what you're supposed to do. We're all gonna have issues. So the truth is, HIPAA isn't about paperwork.

It's really about protecting people. I know it's a lot of paperwork. It is a big, giant manual and stuff we really hate. And let's be honest, we don't get paid to do it. But if we don't do it, we're gonna be paying somebody else a lot of fines and we don't wanna do that. So let's take a little thing and make sure that you guys are HIPAA compliant.

If anybody is a hundred percent confident, a hundred percent, not just like 99%, but a hundred percent confident that you're HIPAA compliant in your office, that if you got audited today, if you had a disgruntled patient or employee and they reported you to hipaa, you would be fine. I want you to gimme a thumbs up, right?

Thumbs up. Not very many. It's hard to be a hundred percent confident with HIPAA because it, there are so many gray areas and it changes all the time. I cannot believe how much it changes, and honestly, sometimes it freaks me out. Holy cow, it's changing. Oh, then it changed back and we really keep up with this because it is changing.

All the time. They'll make a new law and then somebody makes a lawsuit, and then that law changes and we did this. Now we gotta go back to do this. It's hard to keep up, but guess what? The government doesn't care. It's like taxes. Ignorance is not an excuse just because you didn't know.

They don't care. They're still gonna say, you weren't compliant, you didn't do what you were supposed to do. We gotta do something about this and we don't want that. So what I want you to do is I want you to take the HIPAA risk score quiz with me. It's super easy. It's gonna take you like two minutes and it's 10 questions.

No one's going to see your answer. It's just for you. It's just for your knowledge to go. Okay. Do I need help with this or not? Am I a hundred percent compliant or do I need some help? Okay, so get your phones out. You can scan the QR code if you can't do it right now. Here's the URL. Now this is one oh, HIPAA 1 0 1.

HIPAA is not spelled wrong. All right? I want you to do H-I-P-A-A. Right. Don't spell it wrong. That will be your first HIPAA mistake. So make sure you look at that because we tend to spell it wrong, right? 'cause it's a weird acronym. So HIPAA risk score.com. I want you to go there right now, and I want you to do this quiz.

I'm telling you, it's super easy. If you can't do it right now because you're listening to me in the car or whatever, you're busy doing something in between. I want you to come back to the video. Check this or bookmark that because we want you to take this. It's a quiz. It's easy, it's gonna just give you a little idea.

How are you doing on your privacy training, if you even know what that is, cyber security and encryption. Are compliant with your business associates? Are you ready? God forbid, knock out wood if you had a breach. What about your policies and documents? Are they up to date? Do you know the changes that were made this year?

That's a huge thing. So go right now, hipaa risk score.com, and I want you to do this little quiz. And like I said, no one's going to see it. It's just for your information. And so here's an example of a question. When you have a new hire, when you hire somebody on, when do you give them the privacy rule training?

Think about it, when do you do it? Do you do it when they first start their very first day of work? Do you have it during their onboarding or do you say in our office they learn as you go. But the thing you have to think about is when are they getting access to PHI. So think about these things because we all hire new people and we need to get 'em in.

We need to get 'em trained as soon as possible. And the first day you are not thinking, oh, I've gotta get 'em HIPAA trained before I, expose 'em to PHI. But that person could inadvertently. Make an exposure and make you at risk and make your patients at risk. So just little things that we do that's normal in practice, sometimes not so normal in hipaa.

So just take that quiz. It's super easy. Do it. You're gonna get a score and I call it your action score, right? If you get 90 to a hundred percent, it's excellent. Your HIPA ready, you're good to go. If you're 80 to 89%, you're good, but you need some improvement, right? You need some help. 70 to 79%. Fair. You need some reinforcement.

You got some really specific weak spots, and if you're below 70, you are at high risk and you need immediate action, take the test, hipaa risk score.com. That's super easy. And then like I said, it's just for you, so this is where you're gonna go. Here's the QR code. I'll leave it up here for a couple seconds so you can use it.

It's just gonna help, did I get an A on my HIPAA risk score? Did I not get an A? And the good thing is, it's only for you and you can only improve from here on out because knowledge is power. You think when our patients come in and they got something wrong, they don't know what's wrong with them, that's why they're coming to you to help them.

But once you see them and you diagnose them with what's wrong, you give 'em a treatment plan. So that's all this is we're seeing or helping you diagnose your practice. Do you need some help with hipaa? And if you do, where do you need the help? When you get your score, if it's not what you want and you need help, reach out because you are not alone.

We are here. Dr. Perry and I are here to help our friends. We don't wanna see anybody having issues. We don't wanna see any patients data getting exposed, and we don't wanna see any docs in trouble. So here's our email [email protected]. Email, reach out and we're happy to help you. So what's your next step?

If you have more questions, you can check out our [email protected] or contact us at [email protected]. Or if you're like, I'm good, I'm ready to go, and you wanna schedule a demo of the program and talk to us more about that, here's a QR code and you can go ahead and check that out.

Go do fearless provider.com/demo and just be sure to check us out. So I'm Dr. Julie McLaughlin for Fearless Chiropractor. And again, I would like to thank ChiroSecure for having this great program and helping us help each other become better. So have a great day. I'll see you soon.
